Patrol Division
The Patrol section is the 1st line of defense against illegal activity and unacceptable behavior and is often the public’s first contact. Patrol officers investigate all calls for service within the Evanston city limits and make reports on those calls. The officers are responsible for patrolling approximately 12 square miles and 70 miles of roads with the city limits. The officers strive to make Evanston a safe place to visit, live, and raise a family. The officers are encouraged to become part of the community and many of them are involved in scouting programs, coaching, and other community events.
As the city grows, the Patrol Section responds by joining the community in designing innovative ways of solving problems, while maintaining the goal of eliminating criminal activity and delivering timely, courteous service.
Currently, the Uniform Patrol section is comprised of 1 lieutenant, 4 sergeants and 12 sworn officers. Collateral duties such as the K9 Program, SRT, Bicycle Patrol, Community Policing and Traffic Enforcement fall under the Uniform Patrol Section.
