Proposed Bear River and Yellow Creek Watershed Project, Uinta County, Wyoming
Public Open House, Wednesday, Aug. 19, 5 – 7 p.m.
Due to Evanston’s history of flooding on average every 2.5 to 10 years and an outdated canal system, which conveys both flood water and irrigation water, the United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) is proposing an improvement project within the City of Evanston and portions of the surrounding Uinta County. The project will be sponsored by the City of Evanston and Evanston Water Ditch, Inc. (EWD) to address water conservation and irrigation supply, flood prevention, public safety, and public recreation opportunities. Federal funds would be used to support the completion the project through the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act (Public Law [PL] 83-566). The proposed project includes piping and pressurizing the EWD canal; installing two detention basins and flood control projects to separate flood waters from the irrigation canal system; constructing four soccer fields in one detention basin and building a recreation trail system along the piped canal.
The public is invited to attend an open house to learn more, ask questions, and submit comments. No formal presentation will be made:
