Evanston was "end of track" on the Union Pacific Railroad in 1868 and a few years later was designated as a locomotive service point, thus securing its future. Since the 1840s the most heavily traveled transcontinental routes in the US from the Oregon Trail to the Lincoln Highway have crossed through southwestern Wyoming including the Mormon, California, Cherokee, Overland Stage and Pony Express trails. Topography here offers relatively easy passage through the Rocky Mountains. At this conference you can walk on several of the trails, as well as, the Lincoln Highway, making it the perfect place for the 2008 National Convention.
