Evanston has a Mayor-Council form of government. The Mayor is elected at-large, and six City Council Members are elected by wards, with two Council Members in each ward. Mayor William R. Davis Bio Ward I Council Members: Tim Lynch Bio

Mayoral Duties
- Presides at all meetings of the governing body and possesses legislative power
- Has superintending control of all officers and affairs of the City
- Sees that the ordinances and laws are observed
- Administers oaths
- Signs commissions, appointments, bonds, contracts, and other obligations to be signed in the name of the City
Council Duties
The City Council as the legislative body adopts ordinances and acts as the policy-making body for Evanston by:
- Establishing policy
- Adopting the budget
- Appropriating money
- Enacting ordinances
